About Me
I’m Lauren — a qualified teacher, engineer, and long‑term homeschooling mum to three boys. Home Education Maths Academy grew out of a simple belief: children learn best when they feel supported, understood, and free to explore ideas at their own pace.
Before creating the academy, I worked as an engineer in both civilian roles and as an Engineering Officer in the Australian Army. That background shaped the way I think about problem‑solving, real‑world maths, and the importance of clear, practical explanations.
I later completed my Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching and spent years teaching maths in Queensland high schools. Alongside that work, I began supporting home‑educating and mainstream students privately — something I’ve now been doing for more than a decade. Over those years, I’ve refined and optimised the small‑group learning environment I use today: calm, structured, movement‑rich, and designed to help students genuinely understand what they’re doing.
As a home educating parent myself, I know how important it is to find learning spaces that feel safe, respectful, and aligned with your family’s values. My goal is to offer classes that honour the flexibility of home education while providing clear guidance, hands‑on exploration, and a supportive community for students from Prep to Year 12.
My Values
Clarity over pressure — students learn best when they feel calm and capable.
Small groups — space to ask questions, collaborate, and build confidence.
Real‑world maths — practical, meaningful, connected to everyday life.
Movement and variety — learning doesn’t have to be still or silent.
Respect for home‑educating families — flexibility, understanding, and genuine partnership.
An Inclusive, Welcoming Space
Home Education Maths Academy is a place where all students and families are welcome. I value and respect diversity in all its forms — including LGBTQ+ students, neurodivergent learners, culturally diverse families, and those with unique educational journeys. Every child deserves a learning space where they feel seen, safe, and supported, and I work intentionally to create that environment in every class.
Professional Standards & Safety
I am a fully qualified and registered teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers and hold a current Blue Card. These registrations reflect my commitment to professional practice, child safety, and maintaining the highest standards in the learning environment I provide.
