Our Classes
Small groups. Maths in motion. Run by homeschoolers, for homeschoolers.
Home Education Maths Academy offers small‑group maths classes from Prep to Year 12, designed specifically for home‑educated students. Created and taught by a qualified, registered teacher who is also a fellow homeschooler, each session blends professional expertise with lived experience to create learning that is structured, flexible, and deeply responsive to individual needs. Classes run weekly during Queensland school terms and follow the Australian Curriculum, using hands‑on tasks, movement‑based activities, and real‑world problem‑solving to help students build confidence, capability, and a genuine enjoyment of maths.
Primary Maths Classes - Prep - Year 6
Our primary classes give children a strong and joyful foundation in maths. Each session blends clear teaching with hands‑on exploration, movement, and collaborative challenges. Students build confidence as they work with numbers, patterns, shapes, and real‑world problems in ways that feel engaging and accessible. All learning aligns with the Australian Curriculum and is adapted for the needs of home‑educated learners. Classes are small, supportive, and designed to create a calm environment where children can grow their skills and enjoy learning.
Prep–Year 2: Moving Into Maths
These sessions give young learners a joyful, hands‑on introduction to the foundational ideas of maths. Children explore number, pattern, shape, and early measurement through movement, play, and short bursts of explicit teaching woven into engaging activities. The focus is on building strong number sense, recognising patterns, comparing quantities, and developing early spatial awareness. Students learn to talk about their thinking, use simple strategies, and make sense of everyday mathematical situations. Each 75‑minute session blends warm‑ups, games, and collaborative tasks that support curiosity, confidence, and early problem‑solving.
Years 3–4: Building Confidence Through Discovery
Students in this stage deepen their understanding of number, place value, operations, and early fractions while continuing to learn through movement and practical tasks. They explore measurement, time, and geometry in ways that connect maths to real‑world contexts, helping them see patterns and relationships more clearly. Sessions balance clear instruction with opportunities to reason, discuss strategies, and work collaboratively on problems that stretch their thinking. The 75‑minute format allows time for warm‑ups, guided learning, hands‑on challenges, and reflection, supporting students as they build fluency and confidence.
Years 5–6: Stretching Skills & Thinking
Upper primary students are ready for richer, more complex ideas, and these sessions help them strengthen their understanding of fractions, decimals, percentages, and the relationships between them. Students explore geometry, measurement, and chance through investigations that encourage reasoning and flexible strategy use. They learn to break down multi‑step problems, choose efficient methods, and explain their thinking clearly. The 75‑minute sessions create space for deeper exploration while still keeping learning active and varied, helping students develop the confidence and stamina they’ll need for secondary maths.
What to Expect in Each Class
Every primary session blends clear teaching with hands‑on exploration, movement, and collaborative problem‑solving. Students begin with a short warm‑up to settle in, then move through guided learning, practical activities, and games that build confidence and deepen understanding.
Pricing & Terms
Each class runs for 75 minutes and is billed per term. The fee is $50 per session, with most terms including 10 sessions. Term 1 includes 9 sessions due to the public holiday. Invoices are issued at the start of each term, and payment confirms your child’s place in the class. Sibling enrolments are welcome, and families are encouraged to get in touch if they need flexibility or have questions about the term structure.
Junior Secondary Maths Classes - Years 7 - 10
Our junior secondary classes help students navigate the shift into more abstract and analytical mathematical thinking. Sessions balance clear instruction with practical models, movement‑based warm‑ups, and collaborative problem‑solving to keep learning active and grounded. Students develop confidence as they explore key ideas across algebra, geometry, proportional reasoning, and real‑world applications. All learning aligns with the Australian Curriculum and is adapted for home‑educated learners, creating a supportive environment where students can grow as flexible, independent thinkers.
Years 7–8: Strengthening Skills & Growing Confidence
Our Years 7–8 classes give students the time and support they need to consolidate core skills while stepping into new concepts with confidence. Each session blends clear teaching with hands‑on models, guided practice, and movement‑rich activities that make abstract ideas easier to grasp. Students work with algebra, proportional reasoning, geometry, probability, and everyday problem‑solving in ways that feel achievable and meaningful. Learning aligns with the Australian Curriculum and is tailored to the needs of home‑educated learners, helping students strengthen their understanding and build the foundations for later secondary maths.
Years 9–10: Deepening Understanding & Building Independence
Our Years 9–10 classes help students strengthen core skills while tackling more sophisticated mathematical ideas. Each session combines clear teaching with hands‑on models, movement‑based warm‑ups, and collaborative problem‑solving to keep learning active and grounded. Students build confidence as they work with algebra, functions, geometry, trigonometry, probability, and real‑world applications in ways that feel achievable and meaningful. Learning aligns with the Australian Curriculum and is adapted for the needs of home‑educated learners, with space to consider individual goals and future pathways. Whether a student is preparing for senior maths, exploring trade‑related numeracy, or simply wanting to feel more secure in their skills, classes are tailored to support their direction and help them grow into more independent mathematical thinkers.
What to Expect in Each Class
Every class follows a calm, predictable routine that helps students settle in and focus. They review key skills, explore new ideas in small steps, and practise applying them with support close by. Students are encouraged to think aloud, collaborate when helpful, and build the habits that lead to confident, independent learning.

Senior Secondary - Years 11–12
Focused Support for Future Pathways
Our senior secondary classes provide focused, flexible support for students completing their final years of school‑level maths. Sessions balance clear instruction with guided practice and discussion, helping students deepen their understanding and approach complex ideas with confidence. Learning aligns with the Australian Curriculum and is adapted for home‑educated students, with room to tailor each student’s program to their goals — whether they’re studying QCAA senior maths subjects, building numeracy for vocational pathways, or strengthening foundational skills. The emphasis is on steady progress, independent thinking, and developing the confidence needed for life beyond school.
